Who is Jessie Cabella?

Although I am a writer, I am also so many other things—some which I can label and some that I cannot.

I am the sum of all of my experiences and my reactions to them. Funny, kind, generous, loud, witty, a smart-ass, and loving are just some of the attributes others have labelled me with and I have carried with me. Creative, verbose, clever, and able to talk as fast as an auctioneer are other traits attributed to me. In the end, who I am depends on who you ask. Every person I meet brings out different qualities of mine in varying degree. I love meeting new people and learning what elements of them I bring out in return. My author side is a side of me that is new to many people in my life since I haven’t shared my writing much, but that all changes now!

I am a writer, a blogger, and an eternal dreamer.

When did you start writing?

My smart-alec answer would be in pre-school, but I’m assuming that isn’t what is being asked here. Honestly, I can’t tell you when I started writing, but I can tell you I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t writing. My room has always been littered with various journals and notepads and scraps of paper covered in barely legible scribbles vaguely resembling English; tiny snapshots of the inner workings of my imagination.

What do you like to read?

Give me a well-written, enticing, Young Adult Fantasy, SFF, Urban Fantasy any day! (Think Harry Potter, Twilight, Vampire Academy etc.)

I am also a huge sucker for romance novels. (Think Nicholas Sparks, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel etc.)

What genre(s) do you write in?

They say—who ever “they” are—write what you know, so I tend to write in the same genres I enjoy reading:

    • YA Fantasy
    • YA SFF
    • Romance
    • Poetry

So why do you write?

Writing to me is like breathing; a vital process in keeping my body and mind alive and functioning.

I started writing as an outlet when I was younger to capture my vivid imagination.

As elementary school progressed, I started writing to survive the cruelty I experienced from some of my peers. It was a safe place for me to express my thoughts, feelings, anxieties, and dreams.

In high school, my writing repertoire expanded to include poetry and stories of love and heartache. Finding rhyme and rhythm in my experiences allowed me to make the internal emotions external so I could process them and let them go.

Post-secondary and beyond it evolved ever-still when I wrote the first draft of my novel manuscript (more to come on that later) and blogged for my university website.

With my writing I hope to enchant, surprise, enlighten, and amuse my readers. It is my hope that readers like you will find a little bit of their own human experience reflected back at them. My goal is to connect with you, show you that you are not alone, and perhaps give you a perspective you may never have considered before.
